What cookies are
Small text files, stored on your device
A cookie is a short string of text a website asks your browser to keep. It travels back with each request so the site can recognise the same browser between page loads. Cookies are not programs, they cannot run on their own, and they cannot read other files on your computer.
Why a site wants to remember you
Between one page and the next, a site can otherwise forget everything you did. A cookie lets it keep that thread: the theme you picked, whether you have already seen a notice, or how many people read a story about shift work at 3am. Nothing in that list requires knowing who you are.
Related storage, similar job
Browsers also offer local storage and session storage. They live in a different place than cookies but serve a similar purpose: holding small pieces of site data between visits. Where this policy says cookies, it covers those technologies too, because the rules in the rest of this page apply to both.
Types of cookies we use
This site keeps its cookie list short on purpose. There is no advertising layer, no retargeting, and no third-party tracking pixel sold to a data broker. Two families remain, and only one of them is up for negotiation.
Strictly necessary
Always onThese keep basic functions working: loading a page without a crash, remembering a form you are halfway through typing, and holding your cookie choice so the notice does not repeat on every page. They cannot be turned off through this site, because switching them off would break the parts of quibla.delivery you came here to read.
Analytics
OptionalThese count visits and measure page performance so we can tell which articles people actually finish. Without them we would still write, but we would write blind. You can refuse them through your browser at any time, and the site will keep working.
Preference memory
Light touchIf we add reading settings such as a larger text size, a cookie would hold that setting so it applies on your next visit. This is not personal data, and it is not shared outside the site.
What we do not use
NoneNo advertising cookies. No cross-site profile built around your reading habits. No social login buttons that would hand a third party a record of which waffle house stories you opened. If our practices change, this page changes with them before anything new ships.
Necessary cookies sit on your device for as long as a browser session needs them; analytics cookies usually expire within a few months. The exact lifetime depends on the provider, and your browser settings decide whether it is stored at all.
What analytics tells us, and what it does not
Analytics cookies collect grouped information: which pages were viewed, roughly how long a reader stayed, and which posts from our waffle house coverage were opened most often in a given month. That data is not used to identify individual visitors, and it is reviewed only at an aggregate level — a count, not a name.
In practice this shapes the site in small ways. If a story about overnight shift change draws steady reading, we commission more interviews in that direction. If a page loads slowly on mobile, we fix it. Neither decision requires knowing who you are, which is the point.

Third-party cookies
Two kinds of outside service touch this site, and both are visible if you open your browser's cookie list: the provider that hosts the pages and the provider that measures traffic. Neither is an advertising network.
Those providers may set their own cookies when a page loads, and they may keep them on their own schedules. We do not control the cookies they set, and we cannot read them from here. Each provider publishes its own privacy policy and cookie policy explaining what it stores, how long it keeps it, and where the data sits — those documents, not this one, govern their behaviour.
What we can do is choose carefully. Providers are reviewed before we adopt them, and a service that would require selling reader behaviour to a third party does not get added. If a provider's practices change in a way that would affect readers here, this section is updated.
Read the policy of the service, not just this page.
If you want detail on where traffic data is stored or how long it is retained, the provider's own policy is the accurate source. This page only explains which companies are involved and why.
Managing cookies
Every major browser lets you accept, refuse, or delete cookies, and the settings live in different places depending on which one you use. You do not need this site's permission to change them. Blocking all cookies may prevent parts of the site from working correctly — the cookie notice may reappear on each page, and some interactive features may stop responding.
Open your browser's settings
Most browsers group cookies under Privacy or Site Settings. The help section of your browser documents the exact steps for its current version, and it is usually the fastest route to a clear answer.
Choose what to allow
You can clear everything at once or keep only the site that you need to stay signed in to. Refusing analytics cookies here does not lock you out of any story — reading stays open either way.
Set a default if it helps
Some browsers let you block third-party cookies automatically while still allowing the site you are visiting. That is a reasonable middle ground: the site keeps working, and outside services set nothing.
If a setting blocks something you need and you are not sure which switch to flip, write to info@quibla.delivery with the browser you use. We cannot change your browser from here, but we can tell you which of our cookies is the likely cause.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy when our practices change — when a hosting or analytics provider is replaced, when a new feature adds a cookie, or when the law that governs the site shifts. The current version is always available on this page, at the same address, so a bookmark will not go stale.
Substantive edits to what a cookie does, or to which provider sets it, are reflected here before the change goes live where that is possible. This page does not keep a running archive of older versions, and it does not use a separately numbered edition.
If you have questions about this policy or want to ask about a specific cookie, email info@quibla.delivery or call +1 206 682 2661 during our working hours, Monday to Friday, 9:00 AM – 6:00 PM.
